Appliances and household equipment have a huge effect on your home’s energy costs as well as your individual impact on the environment. When consumers think about appliances which come in high-efficiency models, typically we think about hot water heaters, stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, and clothes dryers. Another home appliance to consider is your home drinking water system or water filter which could be wasting water and energy upon use. All of these products can contribute to excessively high energy bills. As with any variety of products on the market, eco-friendly and effective models are the way to go.

When it comes to high-efficiency appliances, most consumers look for the greatest return for the least investment. This does not necessarily mean that you should buy the least expensive product or system. Truth be told, spending a bit more money initially for an energy efficient appliance is often more economical in the long run because your investment will pay for itself in energy savings. Investing in something that works and works well will benefit you and the environment in many ways.

These benefits include but are not limited to being better for the environment and financial savings. According to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a high-efficiency refrigerator that is purchased today will use less than 50 percent of the energy of a refrigerator purchased 12 years ago.

It is also agreed that lower energy use by higher-efficiency appliances results in less power use, less pollution and fewer greenhouse gas emissions. This means that high-efficiency appliances are better for the environment. But they are better for your bank account, too. Because high-efficiency appliances use less water and electricity to run, they can lower your energy and water bills. The NRDC states that replacing an old clothes washer with a new, Energy Star-rated clothes washer can save more than $100 annually on energy and water bills.

Think you can’t make a difference? The US consumes nearly one million dollars worth of energy every minute, according to the Department of Energy DOE. Imagine if every household cut their energy consumption by even a small amount…

We have plenty of choices for products which are energy-efficient. By choosing high-efficiency appliances when it comes to your drinking water systems  or other appliances, you will begin to see lower utility bills and we will all enjoy a cleaner environment. Enjoy the best of new technologies and do more good for the environment.
