Erin Brockovich Chemical Returns with a Vengeance

Oct 27, 2016

chromium-6Most of us have probably watched the movie “Erin Brockovich” a time or two since its debut in 2000. The popular movie shed some light on the severity of drinking water contamination and water treatment, particularly with the chemical chromium-6. The carcinogenic chemical was wreaking havoc on towns and families out west and she was determined to make the culprit pay – and they did. Danger and health risks were determined, yet the US Environmental Protection Agency has never set a specific limit for chromium-6 in drinking water. If you don’t have a drinking water system in your home, you could be at risk.

After a couple of years, we didn’t hear much about chromium-6. Well, it’s back and according to a recent article from CNN, dangerous levels of chromium-6 are contaminating tap water consumed by hundreds of millions of Americans. The problem is, according to some experts who know just how dangerous this chemical can be, there is some uncertainty when it comes to the safe levels in drinking water and the possible long-term issues from ingesting it. However, if we don’t know how much is safe, how will we know if our drinking water is harming us? It seems as though we won’t know until it is too late and the damage has already been done. That is just not right. You can, however, take the first step in protecting the quality of your drinking water by installing a water filter in your home. Our drinking water systems can remove all kinds of chemicals and other types of drinking water contaminants so your water is safe, clean and won’t cause you the same risk that some tap water does.

As the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has been examining evidence and their analysis, they concluded that the tap water of 218 million Americans contains dangerous levels of chromium-6. Could you be one of them? Public drinking water systems are still in high need of improvement and awareness. Even Erin Brockovich agrees that this water crisis still exists; whether it is chromium-6, PFOA or lead, it is reaching Americans across the country. Seven million Americans receive tap water with levels of chromium-6 that are higher than the legal limit established by California – 10 ppb – which is the only state to actually enforce a maximum contaminant level.

If any of this news concerns you, or you’ve been thinking about installing a home drinking water system for some time, the time is now.
